I feel like my life has become refocused on taking action, in a world full of questions at every turn. It’s really unbalanced. The Going to College 101 topic for this month continues to be Leveling Up, but we are going to focus on taking it to the next level!
With uncertainty remaining about how education will look in the fall, how do you prepare for something that you are currently in the dark about?
As I’ve been thinking about this I realized I need to use what I’ve been saying in the Covid19 newsletters I’ve been writing. Many times we can’t control what’s happening but we can control how we react and act. So, how do you prepare to take it to the next level as a high school or college student, or the family of a student, this fall when we are all currently in the dark about what this is going to mean?
- You look at what worked and what didn’t work this past year
- You figure out what you need to add or improve, and how to do it
- Celebrate what worked any way that’s possible
- Build your reserves now, for later.
When we don’t know what’s going to happen we feel out of control, and it feels uncomfortable. It seems like so much of our lives comes through a screen, especially these days, and who wants to put reality on a screen. Reality is messy, doesn’t always work the first, second, or third time, and is never like that Instagram post of the person with perfect lighting, or carefully curated outrageousness.
But, if you feel some discomfort it’s probably because you’re growing, even while a pandemic is happening.
So, review your last year, celebrate in a fun way, get to work on what needs to be improved, and take self-care seriously.
